Catalan B1: Would: the conditional · Phrases

The conditional adds -ia, -ies, -ia, -íem, -íeu, -ien to the infinitive, with the same irregular stems as the future: parlaria, tindria, faria, podria, voldria. Use it to be polite (Podria ajudar-me?), to give advice (Hauries de descansar), and for what would happen: Amb més temps, viatjaria més.

• hauries de — you should
• podria…? — could you…? (polite)
• jo en el teu lloc — if I were you
• el consell — piece of advice
• el somni — dream
• de gust — gladly
• imaginar — to imagine

• M’agradaria reservar una taula. — I’d like to book a table.
• L’hauries de trucar. — You should call her.
• Seria genial! — That would be great!
• Jo en el teu lloc, no hi aniria. — If I were you, I wouldn’t go.
