Catalan C1: Formal register · Grammar

Formal Catalan uses vostè or vós, the conditional and the imperfet for politeness (Volia demanar-li…, Podria…?), and set phrases in writing: Em adreço a vostè per…, Li prego que…, Adjunto… Letters open with Benvolgut senyor or Benvolguda senyora, and close with Atentament or Ben cordialment. In administrative writing, vós is still common: Us comuniquem que…

• la sol·licitud — request, application
• el termini — deadline, time limit
• la disposició — disposal
• adreçar-se — to address, to write to

• Em poso en contacte amb vostè per informar-lo. — I am writing to inform you.
• Resto a la seva disposició. — I remain at your disposal.
• Li aniria bé dilluns? — Would Monday suit you?
• Atentament, Laia Puig. — Yours faithfully, Laia Puig.
