Catalan B1: The present subjunctive · Words

After wishes, requests, feelings and doubts with que, Catalan uses the subjunctive: Vull que vinguis. És important que ho sàpigues. Regular endings: -i, -is, -i, -em, -eu, -in (parli, mengi, dormi). Irregular: ser → sigui, anar → vagi, fer → faci, tenir → tingui, venir → vingui, saber → sàpiga. tant de bo and perquè (meaning so that) always take it.

• abans que — before
• quan — when
• esperar que — to hope that
• dubtar que — to doubt that

• Espero que estiguis bé. — I hope you’re well.
• Tant de bo plogui! — I hope it rains!
• Truca’m quan arribis. — Call me when you arrive.
• És important que descansis. — It’s important that you rest.
