Every noun has a gender: der (masculine), die (feminine), das (neuter). In the plural the article is always die. Learn each noun with its article. After most verbs the object is in the accusative: only der changes, to den (ein → einen).

• Das ist mein Buch. — That is my book.
• Wo ist die Tür? — Where is the door?
• Ich habe einen Hund. — I have a dog.
• Die Katze ist süß. — The cat is cute.
