German A1: Verbs in the present · Phrases

Regular verbs add -e, -st, -t, -en, -t, -en to the stem (wohn-en → ich wohne, du wohnst, er wohnt). Stems ending in -t add an e: er arbeitet. In a statement the verb is always the second element: Heute spiele ich Fußball.

• Ich lerne Deutsch. — I’m learning German.
• Wo wohnst du? — Where do you live?
• Heute arbeite ich nicht. — I’m not working today.
• Ich spiele gern Fußball. — I like playing football.
