Para contar historias: el past simple para los hechos principales, el past continuous para lo que estaba pasando (I was walking home when it started to rain) y el past perfect para lo que ya había pasado antes (When I arrived, the train had left).

• suddenly — de repente
• while — mientras
• meanwhile — mientras tanto
• eventually — al final
• by the time — para cuando
• had left — se había ido
• was walking — iba caminando
• realised — se dio cuenta

• It was raining when we left. — Llovía cuando salimos.
• I had never seen anything like it. — Nunca había visto nada igual.
• Eventually, we found the hotel. — Al final encontramos el hotel.
