Spanish B1: Would: the conditional · Phrases

The conditional adds -ía, -ías, -ía, -íamos, -íais, -ían to the infinitive, with the same irregular stems as the future: hablaría, tendría, haría, podría, diría. Use it to be polite (¿Podría ayudarme?), to give advice (Deberías descansar), and for what would happen: Con más tiempo, viajaría más.

• ¿podría…? — could you…? (polite)
• yo que tú — if I were you
• el consejo — piece of advice
• el sueño — dream
• encantado — delighted, gladly
• imaginar — to imagine

• Me gustaría reservar una mesa. — I’d like to book a table.
• Deberías llamarla. — You should call her.
• ¡Sería genial! — That would be great!
• Yo que tú, no iría. — If I were you, I wouldn’t go.
