Spanish A1: Hola: ser & estar · Phrases

Spanish has two verbs for “to be”. ser is for who or what something is (soy, eres, es, somos, sois, son); estar is for states, moods and where things are (estoy, estás, está, estamos, estáis, están). Soy español, but estoy cansado.

• hola — hello
• gracias — thank you
• por favor — please
• sí — yes
• no — no
• el hombre — man
• la mujer — woman
• el niño — child (boy)

• ¿Cómo estás? — How are you?
• Estoy bien, gracias. — I’m fine, thanks.
• Me llamo Lucía. — My name is Lucía.
• ¡Mucho gusto! — Nice to meet you!
