To add: de plus, en outre. To contrast: cependant, pourtant, en revanche, alors que. To give a cause: car, puisque, comme (at the start), grâce à (good), à cause de (bad). To give a result: donc, c’est pourquoi, par conséquent. bien que and quoique take the subjunctive; alors que and tandis que do not.

• C’est cher; cependant, ça vaut le coup. — It’s expensive; however, it’s worth it.

• Il pleuvait, c’est pourquoi on est restés. — It was raining, that’s why we stayed.
• De plus, le prix est raisonnable. — Moreover, the price is reasonable.
