Possessives agree with the thing owned, not the owner: mon frère, ma sœur, mes parents. Before a vowel, ma becomes mon: mon amie. son, sa, ses mean his or her: Paul aime sa mère, Marie aime son père. notre, votre, leur for one thing; nos, vos, leurs for several.

• Voici mon frère. — This is my brother.
• Tu as des frères et sœurs? — Do you have any brothers or sisters?
• Ma mère s’appelle Anne. — My mother’s name is Anne.
• Dimanche, on va chez mes grands-parents. — On Sunday we’re going to my grandparents’.
