Italian C2: Sequence of tenses · Phrases

In a che-clause, the tense depends on the main verb. Main verb in the present: penso che venga (at the same time), che sia venuto (before), che verrà (after). Main verb in the past or conditional: pensavo che venisse (same time), che fosse venuto (before), che sarebbe venuto (after: the past conditional, never the present). Vorrei che and avrei voluto che always take the imperfect or pluperfect subjunctive.
