The personal infinitive gives an infinitive its own subject: É importante (tu) dizeres a verdade; para eles perceberem. It is used when that subject differs from the main verb’s, or must be clear, and after prepositions like para, sem, até, depois de and por: Saímos sem eles darem por isso. ao + infinitive means “on doing”: Ao chegar, liguei-te.

• é natural — it’s natural

• É natural estarem cansados. — It’s natural for them to be tired.
• Trouxe o mapa para não nos perdermos. — I brought the map so we don’t get lost.
• Ao sair, fecha a porta. — Close the door when you leave.
• Esperei até acabarem. — I waited until they finished.
