Portuguese A2: Plans: ir + infinitive · Grammar

For plans, Portuguese uses ir + infinitive: Vou viajar amanhã. The simple future (falarei, comerei) belongs mostly to writing and formal speech. Also useful: ter de + infinitive (have to), poder (can), querer (want): Tenho de trabalhar no sábado.

• vou — I’m going (to)
• tenho de — I have to
• posso — I can
• quero — I want
• férias — holidays
• próximo — next
• o fim de semana — weekend
• talvez — maybe

• O que vais fazer no fim de semana? — What are you doing at the weekend?
• Vou de férias em julho. — I’m going on holiday in July.
• Tenho de ir. — I have to go.
• Talvez vá também. — Maybe I’ll go too.
