Portuguese B1: Object pronouns · Grammar

In Portugal, object pronouns usually follow the verb with a hyphen: Vejo-o. Dou-lhe o livro. They go before the verb after não, question words, que and some adverbs: Não o vejo. Quem te disse? After a verb ending in -r, -s or -z, o/a become lo/la and the ending drops: Vou comprá-lo. After a nasal ending they become no/na: Dão-no.
