Portuguese B1: Work & the personal infinitive · Words

Many expressions take an infinitive: antes de sair, depois de comer, sem dizer nada, para aprender. Portuguese also has a personal infinitive that adds endings for its own subject: É melhor irmos já (it’s better for us to go now); Trouxe isto para vocês verem.

• Enviei a minha candidatura. — I’ve sent my application.
• Amanhã tenho uma entrevista de emprego. — Tomorrow I have a job interview.
• A reunião foi adiada. — The meeting was postponed.
• O chefe está de férias. — The boss is on holiday.
